I rarely buy something out of fear of missing out (which is why I often late to try current hype products) but last month I allowed myself to give in to the temptation. If you live in Indonesia, chances are you already know that there was a huge hype around Senka with their Perfect Whip face wash since around the end of last year. I managed to stir away from that hype but the moment this Perfect White Clay came out, I just impulsively grabbed it.
Packaging
The product comes in a simple, white plastic tube containing 120 gr of the product. I believe there’s a smaller packaging but I just can’t find it anywhere. I immediately ordered it the first day it appeared on Sociolla yet the smaller packaging was already sold out even by then.
The back of the tube is covered with white sticker, with claims, direction, and caution printed in Bahasa Indonesia. I peeled the sticker off and here’s what I found. Anybody speaks Japanese? I know we can use Google Translate for this but I’m just too lazy, lol.
And here’s the cap, usual flip-top cap. Secure enough for travelling, I’d say.
Ingredients
This is the ingredients list and the CosDNA analysis on it.
Appearance and Smell
The product is white and creamy. If you apply it directly to your skin, you can feel how creamy it is. I don’t think I’ve ever used a facial cleanser as creamy as this before. As for the smell, I love it. It’s nice, fresh, flowery, and not too strong.
The other way to use this facial wash - which probably is also the more preferred way - is to make a foam out of it using foaming net. It’s just the unique perk of using Senka, I guess. I got my foaming net from Sociolla as a free gift when I bought the facial wash.
So I tried to make the foam and here’s how it looks. I could make more than this, sure, but I don’t see the point of doing that other than because it’s fun. Seriously, I went to their website for Indonesia and there are people who make A BOWL of foam. I find this amount of foam to be enough, though - if not more - for my whole face, and while yes it is fun to make a big big foam, I just don’t have that kind of time and patience, especially in the morning, lol. I’d rather spend those extra minutes for sleeping longer.
This foam is definitely different than what you would expect, assuming that you haven’t tried Senka before. It’s not light and thin at all - the foam is actually really firm and bounchy. As you put it on your face and try to massage your face in rotating motion, the foam will move along with your hands, almost as if it was a super delicate sponge. It won’t drip off your face (you can see how I tilt my palm on the picture and the foam stay put), and unless you splash your face with water, it will stay as firm and bounchy, even if you massage it a little harder or if you really take your time to enjoy the foam on your face (because seriously, it is fun).
Performance
I did a swatch test, which you can see below, but bear in mind that this is just for the sake of demonstration. This facial wash doesn’t actually make any claim about removing makeup.
I use BLP Lipcoat in the shade of Red Velvet to make the swatch, because it has a strong pigmentation and staying power.
I made a foam using foaming net and used it to clean the upper swatch. As for the bottom swatch, I just directly applied the product onto the swatch. For both swatch, I did a gentle rotating motion as I usually do to my face.
I kinda enjoyed how the foams turned into pink, lol. Anyway, as you can see, it does a pretty good job at removing the swatches, considering that it isn’t deliberately formulated to remove makeup. So I think you can rely on this cleanser to clean up makeup residue, after removing it first with first cleanser. And based on this little experiment, I’d say that there’s no difference on the cleaning ability of both method (foaming it first vs. applying it directly).
Still though, on the face, for me each method gives a quite different after-feeling. While both methods give me squeaky clean feeling, when I use the foam made using the foaming net, my face always feels weirdly grainy and not smooth even after I pat it dry with towel. When I massaged the product directly onto my face, though, my face feels soft and smooth afterwards.
Unfortunately, the after-feeling is not the only problem for me. If it was, I would still use it, without making a foam out of it first. Yet now, I no longer use the product - I already gave it to my mom, who has normal, aging skin, and she quite likes it.
The reason why I stopped using it is because I found that I significantly got more acne during the time I used the cleanser, no matter which method I used. After three weeks, I gave up and returned to my Clean & Clear Essential Foaming Facial Wash. It only took two days for my skin to clear up, so yes, I have to say it was because of this Senka cleanser. Maybe there’s something in the ingredients that broke me out, or my skin is just too acne-prone and this cleanser just doesn’t have enough ability to fight acne. Either way, I just don’t feel like trying it anymore.
Conclusion
I really, really, want to love this cleanser since it’s really fun to use and it comes from a trusted brand, too. Sadly my skin just don’t love it. If you have a normal, not sensitive skin, though, this might suit you.
