If you have dry skin, there’s a good chance someone (or something) has told you to try hyaluronic acid. And while there are a million ways to do so, I’m just going to focus on one: the Hyalu B5 Serum by La Roche-Posay. It's one of their bestselling products, and I've seen countless videos raving about the results it gives.
After one too many unfortunate trials, I'm a bonafide hyaluronic acid skeptic. Buuuut I decided to give this one a go. As a disclaimer, this was gifted to me, though not in PR. I work with La-Roche Posay on a monthly basis to create content for their own social media pages. I have no obligation to post and no incentive for doing so ?
So after lots of research and plenty of uses, here's what I found out about Hyalu B5!
A Closer Look at Hyalu B5 Serum
This serum retails for $39.99 from both La Roche-Posay and Amazon. It's also available at Ulta, CVS, Target, and plenty of other retailers. Forty dollars is a lot for a serum, especially one that could be considered drugstore. Let's take a look at some details that could make it worth the price.
Ingredients
Hyalu B5 is made with pure hyaluronic acid, which is obviously good for a hyaluronic acid serum! It also features glycerin to absorb water from your surroundings, dimethicone to protect your skin from losing hydration, and Vitamin B5 to help your skin feel nourished. And since it’s La Roche-Posay we’re talking about, Hyalu B5 is made with the iconic “prebiotic thermal water” sourced from La Roche-Posay, France.
In addition to the good stuff, this serum also contains added fragrance. I think it smells really nice! I'm fortunate that fragrance has never really irritated my skin. Using Hyalu B5 was like a breath of fresh air after trying one too many stinky hyaluronic acid serums. The fragrance in question has been allergy tested and is supposedly still safe for sensitive skin, though it might not be worth the risk for anyone especially sensitive to fragrance.
Packaging
Hyalu B5 comes in a glass dropper bottle. The bottle is blue, but the serum is clear. The dropper itself picks up a good amount of product and doesn't leak or drip on the journey from bottle to hand.
Texture
The serum is somewhat thick and viscous. It’s smooth and slippery, especially when applied to damp skin. It sinks in quickly and doesn’t feel sticky or heavy after application. I’ve never had it pill under or over other products.
How to Use Hyalu B5
La Roche-Posay recommends applying to clean skin and following with a moisturizer. That's a rookie move. It might work fine for those of us in humid climates, but dry skin/dry climate users might have a different experience.
To REALLY get the best bang for your buck, apply the serum to damp skin. Bonus points if you're in a steamy bathroom- after a shower if the perfect time! The serum will immediately start to drink up all that moisture. Follow it up with the rest of your skincare routine, making sure to use a good moisturizer. If you really want to get crazy, seal all that in with an occlusive layer (like Aquaphor or a facial oil). It'll help the Hyalu B5 hold onto all that water, no matter how dry the air is.
Results
Hyalu B5 always leaves my skin feeling soft, plump, and incredibly hydrated. It’s like a special treat for my face! Like I mentioned above, my best results come in a steamy, post-shower bathroom. I usually sandwich Hyalu B5 between a hydrating toner and a snail serum for maximum plumpness.
Who's it for?
If you have dry or easily dehydrated skin, Hyalu B5 could be a great addition to your routine. Those of us who live in drier climates, however, will need to be more careful about sealing the serum in. Failing to do so could just mean you're losing all that extra hydration to the dry air.
Hyaluronic acid is also great for reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles! It's not an anti-ageing ingredient, it just plumps everything up nicely. Hydrated skin tends to look more youthful.
Hyalu B5 is an Incredible Formula
Of all the hyaluronic acid serums I’ve tried, Hyalu B5 is my favorite. It’s cosmetically elegant, simple to layer, and really effective. My skin loves it! Other HA serums can be sticky, runny, or smell really unpleasant. I'll make a list here soon of all the formulas I've tried and why I did or didn't like them!
So, what do you think?
Would you give the Hyalu B5 Serum a try? Or if you already have, what did you think of it?
Let me know if you have any questions! I'll do my best to answer or point you to someone who can.
As always, thanks for reading. I'll see you soon!
xoxo,
